Why Kombis are noisy and hot, and the fix

• An engine behind your back. With the motor in the rear, heat and noise come through the rear firewall. Mass Noise Liner covers that rear engine configuration as a firewall blanket for both sound and heat.
• Big flat walls, roof and tailgate. Deadener goes on the roof skin, wall panels, tailgate skin, door skins, front floor pan, rear firewall and engine area, and rear wheel arches to quieten the drumming.
• Condensation on bare metal. The 10mm Van Liner is closed cell foam with a reflective foil face, which stops moisture forming and keeps sound waves off the exposed metal.
• Ugly joins in the lining. 25m of Van Liner Tape joins the material and finishes the edges.

How the Kombi pack works

Three products, three jobs. The deadener damps panel vibration. Mass Noise Liner is a 2 in 1 transmission barrier with closed cell foam, used on the engine firewall and as a waterproof, removable carpet underlay in the front passenger compartment. Van Liner then insulates the walls and roof against sound and heat.

Is one pack enough for my Kombi?

Yes, there is only one option and it is sized to do the floor, walls and roof. You do not need to add boxes for a standard Kombi.

Built for the VW Kombi. Car Builders also mention the Transporter, but the pack contents refer to the Kombi only, so check with us before ordering for a Transporter.

How to install in a Kombi

Effort: involved, because you are lining the whole shell, but every step is simple.

1. Strip the Kombi back to metal: floor coverings, wall and door panels, roof lining and the engine area trim.
2. Every Kombi surface you plan to cover, engine area included, wants a wipe with isopropanol or wax and grease remover.
3. Roll deadener onto the roof skin, walls, tailgate, door skins, front floor, rear firewall and engine area, and the rear arches.
4. Fit Mass Noise Liner over the engine firewall and lay it under the front carpet.
5. Stick Van Liner over the walls and roof and join the runs with Van Liner Tape before refitting the panels.

Mistakes to avoid in a Kombi

• Leaving gaps at the Van Liner joins. Tape them so the lining is continuous.
• Skipping the engine firewall, the hottest and loudest panel in the van.
