Product features

Quick answer: A small van's bare steel walls resonate on every bump, the cargo area turns into an oven in summer and condensation builds behind the panels. This pack gives you deadener and Van Liner sized for a small van. Tell it whether your cargo walls have windows and it adjusts the quantities. Add Stage 3 Van Seal for a camper build and pick a floor option of Mass Noise Liner or Van Seal.

Small van problems this fixes

  • Panels that resonate on every bump. In a small van, Stage 1 Sound Deadener needs to cover at least half of the single skin roof and wall metal.
  • An oven in summer. Van Liner is 10mm closed cell foam with a reflective aluminium face that forms a radiant heat barrier and slows heat transfer.
  • Condensation behind the panels. Car Builders notes the Van Liner layer also prevents condensation build up.
  • Cold nights in a camper. Optional Stage 3 Van Seal has a reflective face on both sides and, with an air gap, reflects radiant heat and keeps the warmth inside.

How the van stages work

Stage 1 damps panel vibration and goes on first. Stage 2 Van Liner sticks over it as a decoupling layer. Stage 3 Van Seal is 4mm closed cell foam that lines the walls and roof before your plywood or MDF panels go up, creating a sealed inner cocoon. It only works with an air gap between it and the Van Liner.

Which floor and Stage 3 options do I need?

Going to lay carpet or a rubber mat? Choose Mass Noise Liner, which can be cut to shape, needs no glue and blocks road noise. Putting in a timber floor? Van Seal acts as a gasket under the plywood, stops creaks and is a moisture barrier. Building internal walls for a camper? Add Stage 3.

Fitment for small vans

Car Builders size this pack on standard vans with a typical cargo length of 1.7 to 2.4m, such as the Volkswagen Caddy. Check your cargo dimensions against the quantities above before you order, or send us your van details.

How to install in a small van

Effort: easy access in an empty cargo area. The main skill is neat Van Liner work around the ribs.

  1. Clear the small van out completely and degrease each side wall and roof panel with isopropanol or a wax and grease remover.
  2. Roll deadener onto the side walls and roof, aiming for at least half of each single skin panel. Use the extra foil tape on every vertical sheet.
  3. Stick Van Liner over the deadened flat panels, keeping clear of the structural ribbing, and tape the joins with Van Liner Tape.
  4. Stage 3 buyers: Van Seal is glued last. Spray both the van ribs and the Van Seal, give it between 10 and 15 seconds, then press it on so a gap of air remains behind it.
  5. Lay your chosen floor layer before the ply, carpet or mat goes down.

Small van mistakes

  • Pressing Van Seal hard against the Van Liner. With no air gap it will not work as a thermal barrier.
  • Ordering the no windows pack for a van with windows, or the reverse.

Frequently asked questions, small vans

Do I need Stage 3 in my small van?

Only if you are building internal walls, such as a camper fit out with plywood or MDF.

Can I put Mass Noise Liner under a timber floor in my van?

Yes. Car Builders says it can go under a timber floor when road noise is a priority.

Does the windows option really change the pack?

Yes. With windows all round you get one roll of Van Liner and one Van Liner Tape instead of two.

What width is each Van Liner roll?

1m wide by 5m long.
