Product features

Quick answer: Van Liner is the Stage 2 layer for a van fit out: 10mm closed cell foam with a silver PET face and a peel and stick back. It goes over Stage 1 Sound Deadener on single skin sheet metal to keep heat and noise out of the load area, and it will not rot or attract moisture. One roll is 5m x 1m, or 5 square metres.

Why line a van with it?

  • A load area like an oven. Thermal conductivity is 0.034 W/m.K, and the silver PET face further stops heat radiating into the van.
  • Booming bare walls. The foam is an acoustic barrier as well as thermal insulation, so it also quietens big flat panels.
  • Damp in a camper. Van Liner will not rot, attract moisture or grow mould.
  • Thick insulation eating space. Car Builders say this 10mm sheet outperforms much thicker insulation on the market.

How it works

Stage 1 deadener damps the vibration in the steel, then Van Liner goes over the top as the insulation. Building a camper with plywood or MDF walls? Add Van Seal as Stage 3, leaving an air gap between it and the Van Liner.

What is in the box

  • One 5m x 1m roll of 10mm Van Liner (5 square metres)

How many rolls do I need?

Each roll covers 5 square metres. Add up the wall and roof areas you want lined and divide by five, rounding up.

Will it fit my van?

It is cut from the roll to suit any van. Car Builders list van walls, roof skins, fender cavities, quarter panels and doors, plus campers, trucks and equipment.

How to install Van Liner

Difficulty: Moderate on a full van, because the roof is overhead work and needs adhesive.

  1. Fit Stage 1 Sound Deadener to the bare panels first.
  2. Wipe every surface with isopropyl alcohol wax and grease remover. Metho and turps leave a residue on the deadener and steel.
  3. Cut pieces from the roll to fill the bays between the body ribs.
  4. Place each piece without stretching it, so the foam does not pull back over time.
  5. Roll every piece firmly with an Application Roller, edges included.
  6. Overhead on the roof skin, Car Builders recommend their upholstery grade Spray Adhesive rated at 120°C as well as the backing.
  7. Burst any air bubble with a pin and roll it down again.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Skipping Stage 1 on bare single skin metal.
  • Fitting Van Seal hard against Van Liner with no air gap.
  • Leaving the adhesive off the roof.

FAQ

Do I need Van Seal on top?

Only if you are fitting internal walls such as plywood or MDF. Van Seal then goes over the Van Liner with an air gap between them.

Does Van Liner need glue on the walls?

On clean metal the peel and stick back holds it. Overhead on roof skins, add Spray Adhesive.

Is Spray Adhesive needed on factory bitumen pads?

Yes, with Spray Adhesive, because bitumen is a rough, porous surface.

Is it fire rated?

Yes, B2 flame retardant.
