Product features

Quick answer: If stone chips and rust are eating the floorpan, or you are sick of throwing out leftover mixed paint, TXT 1K Black is the single pack underbody answer. TXT Coating 1K Black is a single pack textured underbody paint, designed and made in Australia by Car Builders. There is no hardener to mix, so you spray what the job needs and seal the tin for next time. The 1L tin comes with a Schutz connector fitted, and one coat covers about 2.7 to 3 square metres.

Why use TXT 1K under the car?

  • Stone chips and rust eating the floorpan. A textured black coat that stands up to impacts, scratches, rust and moisture.
  • Throwing out leftover mixed paint. Single pack, so unused paint can be sealed in the tin and saved.
  • Pouring paint into a gun cup. The Schutz connector lets an underbody gun screw straight onto the tin.

How the 1K system works

It air dries with no catalyst. Shake, fit the gun and spray. Your air pressure sets the texture: more pressure, finer grain. Two coats give full cover, with the first aiming for about 95%.

What you get

  • 1 x TXT Coating 1K Black, 1L with Schutz connector fitted

How many tins do I need?

Allow about 2.7 to 3 square metres per litre for a single coat, or 1.35 to 1.5 square metres if you lay two. There is no 4L kit. Car Builders say to buy four 1L tins instead, and with no hardener involved you can buy exactly the number you need.

Where does 1K belong?

Wheel arches, floorpans, chassis, interior panels and trims, and stone guard areas. It bonds to metal, aluminium, fibreglass, plastic and wood. Keep it out of the sun: external bodywork, trailers, toolboxes and bar work call for TXT 2K.

Spraying TXT 1K

Difficulty: Moderate. Needs a compressor and a Schutz underbody gun.

  1. Scuff metal, aluminium, galvanised steel, rigid plastic or fibreglass with 80 to 180 grit. Flexible plastic gets 180 to 240 grit and an adhesion promoter.
  2. Degrease with a solvent based wax and grease remover or isopropanol. Timber gets no solvent, just a clean, dry surface.
  3. Bare steel holds out rust better with an etch or epoxy primer under the texture. Scuff that primer if it has fully cured.
  4. Shake the tin hard for a minimum of 3 minutes right before spraying. Nothing gets added.
  5. Check the gun and air on their own first. Run a tip of 4mm or larger at 50 to 100psi.
  6. Hold 20 to 25cm off the panel and lay the first coat at about 95% coverage.
  7. Give it 10 min at 25°C to flash, more in the cold, then lay the second coat.
  8. If gun marks show, step back to 45 to 60cm and dust a light coat across at 45 degrees.
  9. Wash the gun out with gun wash, acetone or thinners and reseal the tin.

TXT 1K mistakes to avoid

  • Enamel underneath. TXT 1K is not compatible, and its solvent attacks alkyd paints and NC lacquers.
  • Sun exposed panels. That is a 2K job.
  • Cold days under 5°C.

FAQ

Does TXT 1K need a hardener?

No. It is ready to spray and the tin reseals.

Is there a 4 litre kit?

No need for one. Buy four tins.

Will it go over the paint I already have?

Acrylics, epoxies and urethanes are fine. Enamel is not, and the solvent attacks alkyd paints and NC lacquers. Patch test anything you are unsure of.

Should I pick 1K or 2K?

1K for arches, underbody, chassis and interior parts that stay out of the sun. 2K for anything UV exposed or where you want the most toughness.

What gun suits it?

A suction feed Schutz underbody gun with a tip of 4mm or more.
