You get one box of Stage 1 Sound Deadener (12 sheets, 1.8 square metres), an Acoustic Liner precut to fit the Shark roof, and an application roller. The 12mm liner fits under the factory roof lining to lower cabin noise and reduce heat transfer.

What problems does the BYD Shark Roof Pack fix?

  • Rain and road noise drumming on the roof. Deadener on the roof skin reduces resonance and the pebble in the pond effect.
  • A hot cabin in summer. The closed cell Acoustic Liner reduces heat transfer through the roof.
  • Cutting foam to an awkward roof shape. The Acoustic Liner is precut to fit the Shark roof.
  • Worry the liner will not go back up. At 12mm it fits neatly under the factory roof lining.

How it works

The Stage 1 Sound Deadener adds mass to the thin roof skin so it stops ringing. The Acoustic Liner sits over it as a lightweight closed cell foam to soak up cabin noise and slow heat coming through the roof.

How much do I need?

One pack does the roof. A typical roof uses 7 to 8 deadener sheets, so you have sheets left for the front doors.

How to install

Difficulty: Moderate. You need to drop the roof lining.

  1. Drop the roof lining. A trim removal kit makes the clips easier.
  2. Clean the roof skin with a panel wipe so it is free of dust, wax and oil.
  3. Apply the Stage 1 Sound Deadener sheets to the roof skin.
  4. Roll every sheet firmly with the application roller.
  5. Peel and stick the precut Acoustic Liner over the deadener.
  6. Refit the roof lining.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Skipping the surface clean.
  • Not rolling the deadener down fully.
  • Covering roof lining clips, airbag areas or wiring routes.
