These ultra-fast, Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT), solar charge controllers have built in Bluetooth and by utilising the free VictronConnect app many parameters can be viewed and set, such as battery voltage, solar history, load output, flexible battery charge algorithms plus day/night timing and light dimming options.

These advanced MPPTs also include Advanced Maximum Power Point Detection in case of partial shading conditions. The Victron Smart Solar MPPT 100/15 15 Amp (12V/24V) Solar Charge Controller Regulator has a variety of features that ensures you get the best performance from your Solar Panels through to your batteries.

Key Features

Bluetooth Smart Built-In: The wireless solution to set-up, monitor, update and synchronise SmartSolar Charge Controllers using the free VictronConnect app.

VE.Direct Wired Connection: For wired data connection to a Color Control GX, other GX products, PC or other devices for comprehensive system monitoring.

Ultrafast Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT): Especially in case of a clouded sky when light intensity is changing continuously, ultra-fast MPPT improves energy harvest by up to 30% compared to PWM charge controllers and up to 10% compared to slower MPPT controllers.

Advanced Maximum Power Point Detection: Innovative BlueSolar algorithm maximizes energy harvest in partial shading conditions by always locking to the optimum maximum power point even when multiple power points exist.

Outstanding Conversion Efficiency: Maximum efficiency exceeds 98% with no cooling fan required. Full output current maintained up to 40°C (104°F).

Flexible Charge Algorithm: Fully programmable charge algorithm with eight pre-programmed algorithms selectable via rotary switch for different battery types and applications.

Extensive Electronic Protection: Over-temperature protection with power derating, PV short circuit protection, PV reverse polarity protection, PV reverse current protection, and battery reverse polarity protection.

Internal Temperature Sensor: Compensates absorption and float charge voltage for temperature variations ensuring optimal battery charging.

Optional External Battery Sensing: Smart Battery Sense or BMV-712 Smart Battery Monitor can communicate battery voltage and temperature to one or more SmartSolar Charge Controllers via Bluetooth.

Automatic Load Disconnect: Prevents battery over-discharge by automatically disconnecting loads when battery voltage reaches preset levels.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What size solar panel can I connect to the SmartSolar MPPT 100/15?

A: For 12V systems, you can connect solar panels up to 220W nominal power. For 24V systems, you can connect up to 440W nominal power. The maximum PV open circuit voltage is 100V, and maximum short circuit current is 15A. Always ensure your solar panel specifications remain within these limits.

Q: Do I need the VictronConnect app to use this solar charge controller?

A: No, the SmartSolar MPPT 100/15 will function automatically without the app. However, the free VictronConnect app (available for iOS and Android) provides valuable features including real-time monitoring, historical data, parameter adjustment, firmware updates, and advanced configuration options. The app significantly enhances the functionality and user experience.

Q: Can I connect a load directly to this charge controller?

A: Yes, the SmartSolar MPPT 100/15 has a load output with automatic load disconnect functionality. This prevents battery over-discharge by automatically disconnecting loads when battery voltage reaches preset levels. The load output can be configured through the VictronConnect app.

Q: What is the difference between MPPT and PWM solar charge controllers?

A: MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) controllers are significantly more efficient than PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) controllers. The SmartSolar MPPT can improve energy harvest by up to 30% compared to PWM controllers, especially in cloudy conditions or when light intensity varies. MPPT controllers extract maximum available power from solar panels by continuously tracking the optimal voltage/current operating point.

Q: Will this charge controller work with lithium batteries?

A: Yes, the SmartSolar MPPT 100/15 supports various battery types including lithium batteries. The charge algorithm is fully programmable through the VictronConnect app, allowing you to configure appropriate charging parameters for lithium, AGM, gel, flooded lead-acid, and other battery chemistries. Eight pre-programmed algorithms are also available via rotary switch.

Q: How does the partial shading detection work?

A: The SmartSolar MPPT 100/15 features advanced maximum power point detection specifically designed for partial shading conditions. When shading occurs, multiple maximum power points may exist on the power-voltage curve. The innovative BlueSolar algorithm continuously scans and locks to the optimum maximum power point rather than settling on a local (suboptimal) power point, maximizing energy harvest even in challenging conditions.

Q: Can I monitor multiple Victron devices together?

A: Yes, through the VictronConnect app you can monitor multiple Victron devices via Bluetooth. For more comprehensive system monitoring and control, you can connect the SmartSolar MPPT 100/15 via its VE.Direct port to a Victron Color Control GX or other GX products, enabling centralized monitoring and control of your entire power system.

Q: What protection features does this charge controller have?

A: The SmartSolar MPPT 100/15 includes comprehensive protection: battery reverse polarity protection (via fuse), output short circuit protection, over-temperature protection with automatic power derating, PV short circuit protection, PV reverse polarity protection, and PV reverse current protection. These protections ensure safe, reliable operation even in fault conditions.
