Car Builders Ute Sound Deadening Pack, Holden and Ford Utes

Ute noise problems and how each pack fixes them

• Road noise through the carpet. Stage 1 Sound Deadener goes on the floor and firewall under every carpeted area, then Stage 2 Acoustic Liner, a peel and stick modern carpet underlay, sits ready for the carpet.
• Booming behind the seat. Packs 2 and 3 add a box of deadener so the rear firewall and door skins can be treated as well.
• Leaky door cards. Pack 3 includes a two door Door Restore kit, a factory style waterproof membrane that seals off the door cards on the doors or quarters.
• Heat off the roof. Pack 3 also includes one sheet of 6mm Insul-Layer to cover the entire roof skin, stopping heat and sound.

How it works

Two layers do the work: deadener on the steel to stop it vibrating, then Acoustic Liner over it as the underlay your carpet sits on. Pack 3 adds the membrane behind the door cards and closed cell foam on the roof as extra stage 2 treatment.

Leave it on None, or pick one of the four carpet colours. Car Builders do not state the carpet size, so ask our team before ordering if that matters for your build.

Which ute pack should I buy?

If you are only redoing the carpet, Pack 1 is enough. If the back wall is the noisy part, step up to Pack 2. Pulling the whole interior out? Pack 3 lets you seal the doors and insulate the roof at the same time.

Will it fit my ute?

Car Builders sell this as a ute pack for car based utes and list Holden and Ford utes. Sheets are trimmed to your floor on the day. For 4x4 single and dual cab utes, see the separate Car Builders 4x4 packs.

How to install in a car based ute

Effort: moderate. The cabin is small, but the seat, carpet and door cards still need to come out.

1. Remove the seat, carpet and, for Packs 2 and 3, the door cards and rear wall trim.
2. Get the ute floor pan clean and dry with wax and grease remover or isopropanol so the deadener sits on bare, clean steel.
3. Pack 1 deadener follows the carpet line, firewall included. Packs 2 and 3: carry on up the rear firewall and onto the door skins.
4. Stick the Acoustic Liner over the deadened floor ready for the carpet.
5. Pack 3: fit the Door Restore membrane behind each door card and stick Insul-Layer to the roof skin, then refit.

Mistakes on car based utes

• Opening the stubby holder before the job is done. Car Builders is clear it is only for after.
• Refitting door cards without a membrane in Pack 3, letting water in.

FAQ: ute packs

Is the ute pack for my Hilux or Ranger?

No. This is for car based utes like the Holden and Ford utes. 4x4 utes have their own single and dual cab packs.

What is Door Restore in the ute kit?

A factory style waterproof membrane to seal the door cards, supplied for two doors in Pack 3.

Does Pack 1 treat the back wall of my ute?

Pack 1 covers the carpeted areas. The rear firewall and door skins come in from Pack 2.

What does each ute pack weigh on the scales?

About 15kg for Pack 1, 20kg for Pack 2 and 25kg for Pack 3.
