Product features

Quick answer: Car Builders Peel and Stick Heat Shield is a self adhesive heat barrier for tight spots. It has an aluminium face on a 3mm needle punched fibreglass and polyester core, and Car Builders oven test it for 30 hours at 246°C with no failure. Peel the liner, stick it to the panel you want to protect with the aluminium facing the heat, and it reflects radiant heat off floor pans, tunnels, fuel tanks and firewalls.

What problems does the Car Builders Peel and Stick Heat Shield fix?

  • Hot floors and tunnels. Most cabin heat is radiant heat from the exhaust and engine. The aluminium face reflects it before it reaches the floor pan or tunnel.
  • No room for a spaced shield. It sticks straight onto the panel, so it works where there is no space for an air gap.
  • Plastic parts near heat. Car Builders state it can go onto plastic surfaces such as fuel tanks.
  • Rattling metal shields. It is soft backed, so you get some sound deadening without the squeaks and rattles of pressed metal shields.

How it works

The aluminium face sits towards the heat and reflects it. Any heat that gets through then has to pass the fibreglass and polyester core before it reaches the panel. Car Builders say an Embossed Heat Shield spaced off the panel with an air gap is the most effective option, and this one is the next best choice when there is no room for that gap.

What is in the box

  • 1 Peel and Stick Heat Shield sheet in the size and type you select

How much do I need?

Measure the panel you want to cover and allow for the shape of the surface. Pick the size from the options. If one sheet will not cover it, order more than one.

Will it fit my vehicle?

It is a self adhesive sheet, not a part for one model. Car Builders list fuel tanks and fuel systems, tunnel shields, floor pans, exhaust areas, body shields, transmissions, steering components, fluid lines, rubber mounts and axle bushings. Use it on the panel being protected, never on the hot part itself.

How to install

Difficulty: Easy. Cut, peel and stick.

  1. Clean the panel so it is free of dust, oil and grease.
  2. Make a paper template of the area and cut the sheet to suit.
  3. Peel off the release liner.
  4. Stick it in place with the aluminium face towards the heat source and press it down firmly over the whole area.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Sticking it onto the exhaust or another heat source. The adhesive side must go on the part being protected.
  • Fitting it with the aluminium facing the panel. The aluminium faces the heat.
  • Laying it over dirt or grease, which stops the adhesive gripping.

FAQ

Can I stick Peel and Stick Heat Shield onto my exhaust?

No. Car Builders say it cannot go onto an exhaust or heat source. It goes on the surface you are protecting, with the aluminium facing the heat.

What is the difference between the Embossed and Peel and Stick heat shields?

The Embossed Heat Shield is a double sheet of aluminium that is spaced off the body to leave an air gap. Peel and Stick has an aluminium face on an adhesive backed fabric core and is stuck straight onto the surface.

Which heat shield is better?

Car Builders say the Embossed Heat Shield with an air gap is the most effective. Where space is tight and the shield has to touch the panel, Peel and Stick is the better choice.

Which spots under the car suit Peel and Stick Heat Shield?

Anywhere between a heat source and the area you want to protect, such as the underside of the firewall, floor pan, transmission tunnel, air intake box, under the cab above the exhaust and around a fuel cell.

Does it help with noise?

Car Builders list acoustic sound deadening benefits.
