Product features

Quick answer: A Patrol firewall pad that has crumbled or gone missing lets engine heat and noise straight into the cabin. This pre cut pad is an OEM style replacement, in a GU or GQ option. It is Car Builders Premium Underbonnet Insulation, a needle punched polyester with a self adhesive backing, rated to 207°C. The GU pad suits ZD30 models from September 2001 to December 2012 and GU utes from December 2002 to December 2012.

What problems does the Car Builders Nissan Patrol GU and GQ Pre Cut Firewall Insulation Pad fix?

  • Firewall pad crumbling away. It replaces worn, damaged or missing factory firewall insulation.
  • Engine heat and noise in the cabin. Car Builders state it reduces engine noise and heat transfer for a cooler, quieter cabin.
  • Templating around firewall holes. It is pre cut to the Patrol firewall contours and openings.
  • Turbo or hot spots near the firewall. Car Builders suggest cutting the pad in extreme heat areas and fitting their Peel and Stick Heat Shield there.

How it works

The polyester pad sits on the engine side of the firewall and slows heat and noise coming through into the cabin. For more noise control, Car Builders suggest fitting their sound deadener sheets to the firewall first and the pad over the top as a layered barrier.

What is in the box

  • 1 pre cut firewall insulation pad for the Patrol model you select, GQ or GU

How much do I need?

One pack does one Patrol firewall.

Will it fit my vehicle?

Nissan Patrol, GQ or GU option. GU pad: ZD30 engine models from September 2001 to December 2012, and GU utes from December 2002 to December 2012.

How to install

Difficulty: Moderate. Access around the firewall is tight.

  1. Clean the firewall with wax and grease remover.
  2. Trial fit the pad before peeling the backing, checking it lines up with all holes and contours.
  3. If you are adding sound deadener sheets, roll them firmly onto the firewall first.
  4. Find the middle of the firewall and peel back a small section of backing.
  5. Stick the centre down, then work outwards, peeling as you go. Do not stretch the material.
  6. Roll it down evenly with an application roller.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Skipping the trial fit and missing a hole or contour.
  • Stretching the pad to make it line up.
  • Fitting it over dirt and grime. Clean first.
  • Not rolling it down firmly.

FAQ

Which Patrol does the firewall pad fit?

There is a GQ and a GU option. Car Builders say the GU pad suits ZD30 engine models from September 2001 to December 2012, and GU utes from December 2002 to December 2012.

Can I add sound deadener under it?

Yes. Car Builders suggest fitting their sound deadener sheets to the firewall first, then the pad over the top.

How does the firewall pad attach?

It has a peel and stick back. Peel the backing from the centre out, stick it and roll it down. No separate glue is needed.

What about turbo heat near the firewall?

Car Builders suggest cutting the pad in that area and fitting Peel and Stick Heat Shield for targeted protection.
