Quick answer: This pack gives you four stainless steel mounts for fitting a heat shield to an exhaust or any other pipe. A hose clamp holds the mounts to the pipe, the shield fixes on with the supplied M6 button head bolts, and the mount keeps 12 to 15mm of air between shield and pipe. Hose clamps are sold separately.

Why use stand off mounts?

  • A shield resting on the pipe. With no gap the shield heats up along with the pipe, so these mounts hold it 12 to 15mm away and let the air insulate.
  • Clearance that is not quite right. The mounts bend with basic hand tools, so you can raise or drop a shield slightly to suit your project.
  • Curved shields on round pipe. Use two mounts on each hose clamp when the shield wraps around a pipe.

How it works

Each mount is a small stainless stand off with a 6mm thread. A hose clamp secures the mount to the pipe and the button head bolt fixes the shield to the top.

How many packs do I need?

Plan on two mounts for each hose clamp where the shield curves around a pipe, so one pack of four covers two clamp points. Buy hose clamps sized to your pipe.

How to install the mounts

Difficulty: Easy, with basic hand tools.

  1. Let the exhaust cool fully before you start.
  2. Offer the shield up to the pipe and mark where the mounts will sit.
  3. Fix each mount to the shield with its M6 button head bolt.
  4. Secure each pair of mounts to the pipe with a hose clamp and tighten it.
  5. Check the gap all round. If the shield needs to sit a little higher or lower, bend the mount slightly and refit.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Ordering without hose clamps.
