U-POL Raptor 2K Protective Coating, 4 Bottle Kit

What does Raptor protect against?

• Scratches, knocks and stains. It cures to a tough, damage resistant and stain resistant textured surface.
• Rust and moisture. The finish is water resistant and protects against rust and corrosion.
• Chemical attack. U-POL rate it resistant to fuels, hydraulic oils, animal urine, salt water and more.
• Colour fade outdoors. It is UV resistant with a high level of fade resistance, and the Tintable version can be matched to your colour code.

How it works

Each bottle of Raptor is paired with 236ml of hardener to make 947ml of 2K coating. Car Builders sum up the method as fill, shake, shoot. It goes on with a Schutz gun, an HVLP gun, a roller or a brush. Reduce it up to 20% with general purpose thinners for a smoother texture and to spray through an HVLP gravity gun.

Choosing your options

• Colour: White, Black, or Tintable clear for adding your own base coat.
• Spray Gun: None if you already own one, the Standard Spray Gun, or the Adjustable Texture Gun.
• Kits: add the Paint Prep Kit, the Masking Kit, both, or neither.

How much coverage does a kit give?

Typical coverage is 3.05 square metres per litre. The 4 bottle kit makes 3.78L, which is about 11.6 square metres single coat. Car Builders recommend 2 coats minimum, so plan on roughly half that area per kit.

What can I coat with it?

It is not vehicle specific. U-POL state excellent adhesion across many substrates. On bare steel, put down a 1K etch primer first.

How to install

Difficulty: Moderate. Most of the work is surface prep and masking.

1. Prepare and clean the surface. Use a 1K etch primer on any bare steel.
2. Mask off everything you do not want coated.
3. For Tintable, add 10% base coat using a solvent based system. Activate 2K paint before adding it. Never tint with a water based system.
4. Fill with the hardener and shake, per the fill, shake, shoot method.
5. Spray with a Schutz gun, or reduce up to 20% with general purpose thinners for an HVLP gravity gun. A roller or brush also works.
6. Apply a second coat. Check the U-POL technical data sheet for recoat and cure times.

Mistakes to avoid

• Tinting with water based paint.
• Skipping etch primer on bare steel.
• Spraying without a suitable mask or proper airflow.

Supply and dangerous goods

Raptor is a flammable 2K coating. The U-POL safety data sheet lists it as dangerous goods, UN1263 Paint, Class 3, so it ships under dangerous goods rules and some delivery options may not be available. We confirm stock before dispatch and will let you know if there is a delay.

FAQ

Do I need a special gun?

No. Raptor sprays through a Schutz gun, or through an HVLP gravity gun if you reduce it, and it can also be rolled or brushed.

Can I match it to my paint?

Yes, with the Tintable version. Add 10% base coat in a solvent based 1K or 2K system, never water based.

How many kits do I need?

Measure the area and allow 11.6 square metres per kit per coat, with 2 coats minimum.

What safety gear do I need?

A suitable mask, and adequate airflow while spraying.
