After fitting, a thin smear of terminal grease or spray protector slows corrosion. Keep the positive covered so a spanner cannot bridge it to the body. Tighten firmly but do not crush the post; a lead post deforms easily. Measure the post and the cable before ordering; a terminal that is too big for the post will never clamp properly. If the old terminal was badly corroded, cut the cable back to clean copper before fitting the new one. Check the terminal again after the first week, as new cable can settle under the clamp.
