Pioneer engineers have applied what they have learned from 3 years of SPL competition experience, including being the first to break the 180dB barrier in competition. But don't be fooled, this woofer is more than brute power, exceptional engineering has also created a woofer with the essential elements to create incredible sound with any music, as well.

Ultra-Strong Dust Cap With Foamed Acrylic Polymer

These latest subwoofers feature a newly-developed dust cap, which boasts far greater strength, yet barely any increase in weight. This is made possible by the use of Foamed Acrylic Polymer sandwiched between carbon-fiber and glass-cloth layers. Foamed Acrylic Polymer is lightweight, but still offers outstanding heat resistance and much greater compressive strength than conventional foam materials, up to approximately 36 times greater than Carbon Fibre blended paper, depending on the angle of force. Foamed Acrylic Polymer also gives the dust cap durability to match its tremendous strength.

Titanium Voice Coil Former (Bobbin)

With up to 6000 watts running through the voice coil, an exceptionally strong former is required. Pioneer now uses Titanium, one of the strongest materials available. The result is 565% stronger than the former design.

Dual Voice Coil

TS-W5102SPL now features two 2 ohm voice coils. This design offers you the flexibility of turning it into either a 1-ohm sub (voice coils connected in parallel), an 4-ohm sub (connected in a series), or powering the voice coils separately (dual 4 ohm loads). More options, more power: that’s what DVC is all about.

It's All About the Details

There are many more new changes as well. A new patent-pending design on the voice coil winding. A new attachment process for the surround to the cone. Improvements to the Spider and the tensile wire. All add up to greater performance, greater reliability and deeper, more powerful bass.

Interlaced Carbon Fibre Reinforced IMPP Cone*

The cone of the TS-W5102SPL features a patent-pending design that combines long carbon fibres into a proprietary blend. The strong, lightweight characteristics of carbon fibre render a robust IMPP cone capable of withstanding the enormous pressure levels the speaker is capable of generating.

aramid fibre Reinforced Rubber Radial Surround*

When a subwoofer is working overtime, the cone exhibits dramatic movement that must be controlled appropriately without compromising the actual sound quality. The same material used in bullet-proof vests, aramid fibre is woven into the rubber surround producing a superior material that eliminates puckering and improves highpower performance.The overhung design allows for a 22% larger cone surface which translates to even more sound pressure.

Ceramic-Coated Voice Coil Wire*

The TS-W5102SPL’s voice coil wire is coated with ceramic, which allows it to handle extreme heat. This doubles the input power handling capability and significantly improves reliability.

Aero-Dynamic Magnetic Gap (ADMG)

As a speaker operates, the movement generated between the top and back plates is subject to resistance, both mechanical and air pressure. To reduce this resistance, strategic channels are precisely machined into the top and back plates. This effectively reduced physical resistance by more than 10% and thus reduced power waste making the speaker even stronger.

Triple-Stack Magnet Assembly

To build the most powerful subwoofer in the world you need power. Twenty pounds of it! Three gigantic ferrite magnets are combined with an extra-large top and back plate to create a motor with enough force to exceed 170+ dB.

Cast Aluminium Basket

Designed from scratch by Pioneer, this one-piece aluminium basket assembly holds the motor assembly, cone, and magnet structure securely in place. The benefits of this design: reduced internal stress, superior damping, and increased magnetic efficiency.
