The OPEK CX201U is a professional-grade 2-way coaxial antenna switch enabling one radio to connect to two separate antennas or two radios to share one antenna. This versatile switching device features frequency range coverage up to 600MHz accommodating VHF and UHF communication systems including CB radios, marine VHF, amateur radio, and commercial two-way systems. The CX201U utilizes SO239 coaxial connectors with 1 input and 2 output configuration, providing manual switching between antenna paths without requiring disconnection and reconnection of coaxial cables. Constructed for reliable signal switching with minimal insertion loss, this antenna switch enables operators to select between different antenna types, locations, or heights based on communication requirements. Ideal for mobile installations requiring multiple antenna options, base stations with backup antennas, marine vessels with bow and stern antennas, and radio enthusiasts operating multiple frequency bands requiring antenna optimization for specific applications.
2-Way Antenna Switching - Manual switch enables selection between two antenna outputs from single radio input or selection between two radio inputs to single antenna output, providing versatile configuration options for various communication requirements.
Wide Frequency Coverage - Supports frequencies up to 600MHz accommodating VHF marine (156-162MHz), UHF CB (477MHz), amateur radio bands (144MHz, 430MHz), and commercial two-way radio systems without requiring separate switching devices for different bands.
SO239 Coaxial Connectors - Standard SO239 female connectors (1 input, 2 outputs) provide universal compatibility with PL259 male coaxial cable connectors used throughout amateur radio, CB, and commercial communication systems.
Minimal Signal Loss - Professional-grade construction maintains signal integrity during switching with low insertion loss, ensuring maximum power transfer to selected antenna without significant performance degradation.
Manual Mechanical Switching - Reliable mechanical switch mechanism provides positive tactile feedback and maintains selected position without requiring electrical power, eliminating failure points associated with electronic switching systems.
Versatile Installation Options - Compact housing enables installation in mobile vehicles, base station equipment racks, marine vessels, or portable field operations, providing antenna selection capability wherever communication systems operate.

Application:
The OPEK CX201U antenna switch mounts in a convenient location accessible to the radio operator for manual switching. For mobile installations, mount the switch within reach of the driver or front passenger area. Connect the radio's coaxial cable to the single input SO239 connector using a PL259 male connector. Connect the two antenna coaxial cables to the two output SO239 connectors. Ensure all PL259 connectors are tightened hand-tight to maintain proper electrical contact. Label each output position to identify which antenna connects to each switch position. Test both antenna positions after installation to verify proper operation and signal quality. For permanent installations, secure the switch housing to prevent movement during vehicle operation. The mechanical switch requires no electrical power connection. When switching between antennas, briefly key-up the radio on low power to verify the newly selected antenna is functioning before transmitting at full power.
Can I use this to switch between two radios sharing one antenna?
Yes, the CX201U operates bi-directionally. You can connect two radios to the two SO239 connectors and one antenna to the remaining connector, switching between radios. However, NEVER transmit on both radios simultaneously as this could damage radio equipment. Only one radio should be powered on or transmitting at any time.
What is the advantage of an antenna switch over disconnecting cables?
An antenna switch eliminates the need to physically disconnect and reconnect coaxial cables when changing antennas. This reduces connector wear, prevents cable damage, speeds antenna selection, and enables quick switching during changing communication conditions. The mechanical switch maintains reliable contact without the oxidation issues from repeated connector cycling.
Does this switch work with CB radios?
Yes, the 600MHz frequency range fully covers Australian UHF CB frequencies (476.425-477.4125MHz). The SO239 connectors are standard for CB radio systems, making the CX201U ideal for CB installations requiring multiple antenna options such as high-gain for highway use and low-profile for urban parking.
Will using a switch reduce my transmit power?
Professional-grade antenna switches like the CX201U introduce minimal insertion loss (typically less than 0.3dB), representing negligible power reduction. The convenience of quick antenna switching typically outweighs the minimal signal loss. Ensure all connectors are tight and clean to minimize any additional losses from poor connections.
Can I leave this switch permanently in my vehicle?
Yes, the CX201U is suitable for permanent mobile installation. Mount the switch securely in an accessible location and ensure all coaxial connections remain tight. Periodically inspect connections for corrosion or loosening from vibration. The mechanical switch mechanism provides reliable long-term operation without requiring electrical power or electronic components that could fail.
