The OEX ACX1942RBL is a 24V, 20A normally open mini relay with resistor spike protection, supplied as a single unit. Designed specifically for 24V electrical systems found in trucks, buses, heavy commercial vehicles and 24V auxiliary setups, it provides reliable accessory switching where a 12V relay would not operate correctly. A relay's coil is designed to operate at a specific voltage a 24V relay requires 24V to energise its coil, and a 12V relay placed in a 24V system will not operate reliably. The ACX1942RBL is the correct relay for 24V electrical systems including trucks, buses, heavy commercial vehicles and 24V dual battery or auxiliary setups. At 20A it covers accessory and auxiliary circuit switching at 24V driving lights, fans, auxiliary loads and general accessory circuits.
The resistor spike protection suppresses the voltage spike generated when the relay coil is de-energised, protecting sensitive electronics and control outputs in the switching circuit. The IP67 sealed housing provides full protection against dust and temporary water immersion for underbonnet and exposed mounting. The five-blade ISO footprint matches the same mini relay socket used for 12V applications, so the same relay holders and harness adapters apply across both voltage systems.
24V coil voltage: Designed for 24V electrical systems will not operate correctly in a 12V system. A 12V relay will not energise reliably in a 24V system either. Always match relay coil voltage to the vehicle's system voltage.

Why is a 24V relay needed instead of a 12V relay? A relay's coil is designed to operate at a specific voltage. A 24V relay requires 24V to energise its coil a 12V relay will not operate reliably in a 24V system, and a 24V relay will not energise correctly in a 12V system. Always match the relay coil voltage to the vehicle's system voltage.
What is a normally open relay? A normally open relay has a contact that is open (disconnected) when the relay coil is not energised. When the coil receives a trigger signal it closes the contact, completing the circuit to the load. This is the most common relay configuration for switching accessories on in response to a signal.
What does resistor spike protection do? When a relay coil is de-energised it generates a voltage spike that can damage sensitive electronics in the triggering circuit. A resistor across the coil terminals suppresses this spike, providing protection for ECU outputs and control module switching.
What is the standard mini relay terminal layout? The 5-blade mini relay uses the standard ISO automotive relay terminal layout: 85 (coil negative), 86 (coil positive), 30 (common/battery), 87 (normally open active when energised) and 87a (normally closed not active on a normally open relay). This layout is the same across both 12V and 24V mini relays.
Is this relay suitable for underbonnet use? Yes. The IP67 sealed housing provides full protection against dust and temporary water immersion, making it suitable for underbonnet, exposed and commercial vehicle mounting positions.
