The OEX ACX1940RB is a 12V, 40A normally open mini relay with resistor spike protection, supplied in a bulk pack of 20. The five-blade terminal configuration is the standard mini relay footprint used across a wide range of automotive relay sockets and harnesses, making it a direct-fit replacement and workshop staple for switching accessories, lighting, fans, and other 12V loads.
Silver tin oxide contact material delivers reliable switching performance and long contact life. The sealed IP67 housing protects against moisture and dust in under-bonnet and exposed mounting positions. A removable mounting tab allows flexible installation options.
Also available as a single unit in a blister pack as ACX1940RBL.

What is a normally open relay?
A normally open (NO) relay has a contact that is open (disconnected) when the relay coil is not energised. When the coil receives a trigger signal, it energises and closes the contact, completing the circuit to the load. This is the most common relay type for switching accessories on in response to a signal.
What does resistor spike protection do?
When a relay coil is de-energised, it generates a voltage spike that can damage sensitive electronics in the vehicle. A resistor across the coil terminals suppresses this spike, providing basic protection for the triggering circuit. This is particularly relevant when the relay is switched by a vehicle ECU or control module output.
What is the standard mini relay terminal layout?
The 5-blade mini relay uses the standard ISO 12V automotive relay terminal layout: 85 (coil negative), 86 (coil positive), 30 (common/battery), 87 (normally open), 87a (normally closed — not active on a normally open relay). This layout is compatible with standard mini relay sockets.
Is this relay suitable for under-bonnet use?
Yes. The IP67 sealed housing provides full protection against dust and temporary water immersion, making it suitable for under-bonnet, exposed, and marine-adjacent mounting positions.
Is this product available in smaller quantities?
Yes. The ACX1940RBL is the same relay available as a single unit in a blister pack.
