Product features

No Cone, No Cutout, No Grille Turn Any Suitable Surface Into a Speaker with the HELIX COMPOSE Exciter

Product Overview

The HELIX CiX E50-S4 is an exciter speaker from the HELIX COMPOSE iX platform a fundamentally different approach to audio installation that produces sound without a cone or conventional diaphragm. Instead of vibrating a paper or polymer cone in a basket, the CiX E50-S4 clamps to a flat or slightly curved surface a door panel, interior wall, motorhome bulkhead, exterior cladding and sets that surface into motion. The surface itself becomes the radiating diaphragm, producing sound that fills the space behind and around it.

The CiX E50-S4 covers 110Hz to 15,000Hz, weighs 118g, and is rated for temperatures from -40°C to +105°C and humidity up to 93%, making it suitable for both vehicle interiors and motorhome exterior applications. Installation uses an adhesive pad (included) or mechanical fastening with the supplied mounting material, with no speaker cutout, grille, or visible driver required.

Features & Benefits

  • Exciter technology — no cone, no cutout — the CiX E50-S4 works by mechanically coupling to a surface and driving it as a distributed diaphragm; no speaker hole is required in the mounting surface, enabling truly invisible installation
  • Works on a wide range of surfaces — interior vehicle panels, motorhome interior walls, caravan bulkheads, exterior cladding, and other rigid or semi-rigid surfaces can all serve as radiating surfaces depending on their material, stiffness, and thickness
  • Ideal for motorhomes and caravans — where conventional speaker installations require cutouts in finished cabinetry or panels, the CiX E50-S4 can be bonded to the rear of surfaces without any external evidence of the speaker
  • Outdoor and extreme environment rated — rated from -40°C to +105°C with maximum 93% relative humidity; the enclosure is built for automotive durability including temperature cycling, moisture, and vibration
  • Adhesive pad and mounting material included — the kit provides both adhesive and mechanical mounting options for flexibility across different surface types and applications
  • Sold as a single unit — one CiX E50-S4 per pack; a stereo installation requires two units
  • Not a full-range replacement — the 110Hz–15,000Hz bandwidth means low frequencies (bass, midbass) below 110Hz are not reproduced; use alongside a conventional subwoofer or midbass driver for full-bandwidth coverage
  • 4 Ohm impedance — compatible with standard car audio amplifiers

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an exciter and how does it produce sound?

A conventional speaker cone moves back and forth rapidly in air, compressing and rarefying it to create sound waves. An exciter takes a different approach: it clamps or bonds to a surface and mechanically drives that surface into vibration at audio frequencies. The surface — whether a vehicle door panel, motorhome wall, or flat piece of cabinetry — becomes the effective diaphragm, radiating sound in the same way a cone would. The advantage is that the speaker itself can be entirely hidden behind the surface with no visible cutout or grille.

What surfaces work with the CiX E50-S4?

The exciter works best on surfaces that are rigid enough to transmit vibration efficiently without excessive damping, but not so heavy that the exciter cannot move them meaningfully. Thin to medium thickness vehicle interior panels, fibreglass or composite motorhome walls, flat cabinetry, and similar materials are ideal. Very thick, dense, or heavily dampened surfaces will absorb the exciter's energy rather than radiating it effectively. Soft or flexible materials (fabric, foam, rubber) are generally not suitable.

How many units do I need for stereo?

The CiX E50-S4 is sold as a single unit — one exciter per pack. A stereo installation requires two units, one per channel.

Does the CiX E50-S4 replace conventional speakers or supplement them?

It depends on the application. In motorhomes, caravans, or areas where conventional speaker installation is physically impractical, the CiX E50-S4 can serve as the primary speaker in the mid and high frequency ranges. However, its 110Hz lower limit means bass content is not reproduced — for a complete sound system, pairing with a subwoofer or conventional midbass driver for frequencies below 110Hz is recommended. In some installations, exciters are used to supplement conventional speakers in secondary zones or hard-to-reach spaces.

Can this be used on the exterior of a motorhome?

Yes — the -40°C to +105°C temperature rating and 93% maximum humidity specification indicate the CiX E50-S4 is designed for the automotive environment including external surface exposure. Suitable exterior cladding materials (fibreglass, composite panels) can serve as effective radiating surfaces for outdoor audio zones.
