Product features

Quick answer: Havelock Wool is 100% wool insulation for van builds and touring vehicles you sleep in. Each box holds 30 batts of 410 x 1220mm and covers 15sqm. Being natural fibre, batt thickness varies from 20 to 30mm. It is rated R7 (RSI 1.23), or R14 (RSI 2.46) doubled. Car Builders are the authorised Australian distributor.

What problems does the Havelock Wool Van Insulation Batts fix?

  • Damp and mould in the walls. Wool manages moisture in the wall cavity, and Car Builders state its natural keratin helps stop mould and mildew spreading.
  • Hollow walls and beams to fill. The soft batts tuck into wall cavities and hollow beams.
  • Chemical smell from synthetic insulation. Car Builders state it has no off gassing and is non toxic.
  • Insulation that slumps. Car Builders describe it as long lasting and non slumping.

How it works

Wool batts fill the cavities behind your van panels to slow heat moving in and out and to absorb sound. Car Builders also state the amino acids in wool bond with formaldehyde, NOx and SO2, helping air quality inside the van.

What is in the box

  • 30 Havelock Wool batts, 410 x 1220mm each, covering 15sqm

How much do I need?

One box covers 15sqm at single thickness. Add up the wall, ceiling and cavity area you want to fill. Doubling the batts gives R14 (RSI 2.46), which needs twice the material.

Will it fit my vehicle?

Universal for van builds and touring vehicles, anywhere wall cavities or beam hollows need filling.

How to install

Difficulty: Easy.

  1. Plan your insulation layers. In a Car Builders van build the wool goes behind Van Seal in the wall cavities.
  2. Tear or cut the batts to suit each cavity.
  3. Press them into the wall cavities and beam hollows.
  4. Close up with your next layer and the wall panels.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Packing the wool so tight it loses its loft.
  • Leaving gaps around the edges of cavities.
