The GME AS002 is the medium duty stainless steel antenna spring for the AE4702 and the AE4700 series medium duty antenna range. Stiffer than the AS001 (light duty), the AS002 provides more resistance against deflection better suited to highway driving and moderate off-road conditions where a light duty spring would flex too easily under wind load and vibration.

The AS002 is also the spring included in the AE4702BTP and AE4702 medium duty all terrain packs.

How does the AS002 differ from the AS001 and AS004/B?

The GME antenna spring range covers three duty levels: AS001 (light duty, suits AE4701/lower-gain antenna), AS002 (medium duty, suits AE4702/standard 4WD and touring use), and AS004/B (heavy duty barrel spring, suits AE4704/AE4705 and extreme applications). The AS002 is the standard choice for most 4WD and touring vehicles — stiffer than light duty for better highway performance, but more compliant than heavy duty for comfortable off-road vibration absorption.

When should I replace the AS002 spring?

The spring should be replaced if it has become permanently deformed (bent, coil set), is visibly corroded, or no longer returns the antenna to a firm vertical position after deflection.
