The GME AB406 is a magnetic antenna base for UHF CB and CB antennas, supplied with a coaxial lead and plug. The magnetic base provides a quick, non-permanent antenna mounting solution on any ferrous (steel) surface suitable for vehicles, machinery, or any steel surface where a permanent drilled mount is not desired.
The 5/16" TPI thread accepts standard Australian UHF CB antenna whips. The included lead and plug allow direct connection to the radio's antenna input without additional coaxial assembly.

The AB406 is a magnetic base and requires a ferrous (steel) surface. It will not adhere to aluminium, fibreglass, plastic, or other non-magnetic materials. Most vehicle roofs and bonnets are steel and will work; confirm that your mounting area is steel and reasonably flat for a secure magnetic contact. Thicker rooflines or areas with internal bracing under the panel may affect magnet strength.
Cable length and plug connector type are not confirmed in the available supplier data. This is important to confirm before purchasing, as cable length determines routing capability and the plug connector must match the radio's antenna input. Contact GME or your supplier for these specifications.
Magnetic bases provide a good ground plane connection through the steel vehicle surface, and performance is generally comparable to bolted bases when installed on a flat steel surface. However, very thin sheet metal, painted surfaces with thick coatings, or non-central roof positions can slightly reduce ground plane effectiveness. For optimal performance on a specific vehicle, a permanent drilled mount typically outperforms a magnetic base — but for most recreational and utility UHF applications, the AB406 will perform well.
The magnetic base can be left in place for extended periods, but is designed primarily as a non-permanent mounting option. Long-term outdoor exposure may allow water and debris to accumulate under the base, potentially affecting the vehicle's paint. If the antenna is to remain on the vehicle full-time, a permanent drilled mount may be more appropriate.
Any antenna using a standard 5/16" TPI thread base is compatible — this covers the majority of Australian UHF CB and CB antenna whips from GME and other brands. Confirm your antenna uses 5/16" TPI thread before purchasing.
