The GME AB004 is a replacement antenna base connector for the AE47xx (AE4700) series of GME antennas. It joins the antenna whip assembly to the spring base using a standard male PL259 at the whip end and an SO239 centre at the spring base end.
This is a genuine GME spare part for field replacement of the antenna base connector when it has been damaged, corroded, or when the coaxial cable connection has failed.
Important the GME CTA500 crimping tool is required to refit this connector to the coaxial cable. The AB004 is not a plug-on connector; it requires the appropriate crimping tool to properly terminate the coax cable. The CTA500 is sold separately. Without the CTA500 (or a compatible tool), this connector cannot be correctly installed.

The AE47xx series refers to GME's range of 477 MHz UHF CB whip antennas — including models such as the AE4700, AE4704, AE4705, AE4706, and related variants. These are spring-base whip antennas used for UHF CB radio communication in 4WD, farming, and recreational vehicles. The AB004 is the replacement base connector for antennas in this family.
PL259 and SO239 are a mating pair of RF coaxial connectors widely used in CB and UHF radio installations. The PL259 is the male plug (with a centre pin and threaded collar); the SO239 is the female socket it threads into. On the AB004, the PL259 connects to the antenna whip assembly and the SO239 centre connects to the spring base.
The CTA500 is GME's dedicated crimping tool for terminating PL259-style connectors onto coaxial cable. It is not included with the AB004 — it is sold separately. Crimping is required to create a reliable electrical and mechanical connection between the connector and the coaxial cable. Without the CTA500 or a compatible crimping tool, the AB004 cannot be correctly installed. Confirm you have access to this tool before purchasing.
Common reasons include physical damage to the connector from impacts or vehicle flexing, internal corrosion from water ingress, a broken or intermittent electrical connection at the coax termination, or stripped threads. If the antenna is performing poorly or intermittently and the cable and whip are otherwise in good condition, a failed base connector is a likely cause.
The AB004 is specified for the AE47xx series, which the AE4705 and AE4706 fall within. Confirm with GME that your specific antenna model uses the same connector specification before purchasing.
