Product Overview

The Gator G40V is a universal 5-in-1 camera in a brake light housing, designed for the top rear of commercial vans. Five viewing modes are switchable via the included wireless controller from the driver's seat:

  1. Birds-eye: Overhead perspective for tight manoeuvres.
  2. Wide angle (180°): Broad rear view for reversing and loading.
  3. Reverse mode (150°): Standard reversing view with optional dynamic guidelines.
  4. Left/right blind spot: Side view triggered by vehicle indicators.
  5. Driving mode: Mimics a rear view mirror while driving forward.

Important — blind spot mode: The blind spot viewing mode requires CANBUS wiring from the vehicle to the camera module. When activated via the vehicle's indicators at speeds over 40km/h, the display switches to the blind spot view. Without CANBUS connection, blind spot mode is not functional.

What makes the G40V different from the G42V?

Both are 5-in-1 cameras with wireless controllers, the same 210°×140° lens, NTSC output, IP67 rating, and 15m cable. The G42V uses a universal flush surface mount; the G40V uses a universal brake light housing mount. The G40V also has CANBUS-triggered blind spot mode (speed and indicator activated); the G42V's blind spot mode is manually switched via the wireless controller.

Does the blind spot mode require CANBUS wiring?

Yes. The blind spot viewing mode only functions when the camera module is connected to the vehicle's CANBUS system. When the vehicle's indicator is activated at speeds over 40km/h, the display switches to the blind spot camera view. Without CANBUS connection, all other modes still function but blind spot mode is unavailable.

This camera is NTSC — will it work with my head unit?

The G40V outputs NTSC only. Most modern aftermarket head units auto-switch between PAL and NTSC. Confirm your specific head unit or monitor accepts NTSC input before purchasing.

Does this camera retain the factory brake light function?

The G40V replaces the OEM brake light housing. Confirm with the F.A.E. team whether the brake light function is retained — retaining a functional brake light is a legal requirement in Australia.

What modifications might be required for a universal product?
