The Dometic CFX5 55 is a 55 litre single zone compressor fridge or freezer that runs on 12V, 24V or 100 to 240V mains, sized for families and longer touring trips.

A slab of ice in an esky is gone by day two, and the meltwater turns the bread and meat into a soggy mess. The CFX5 55 swaps ice for a VMSO3.5 compressor that holds a set temperature from your vehicle supply, and Dometic quotes about 0.87Ah per hour at 12V with 4°C inside and 32°C outside, so a decent auxiliary battery keeps it running between stops.

Fitment and what comes in the box

The CFX5 55 is a freestanding unit, so the real question is space and power. Measure the cargo area or drawer system for 720mm wide by 455mm deep by 480mm high plus room for the lid to open, and plan a fused 12V outlet or Anderson plug rated for the current draw.

Installation notes

If you want it hardwired, Dometic sells the HWK-DC hardwiring kit and the ANDC-DC Anderson cable, plus the SLD55U slide and PC55 cover. A dual battery system with a DC charger is the usual way to keep the fridge powered without touching the starting battery.
