Quick answer: After a full day on the highway, floor drone, door rattle and roof heat wear you out in an 80 Series. This pre cut pack deadens the steel and lays liner over it, with Pack 1 for the floor pan, Pack 2 adding the doors and Pack 3 adding the roof. Every pack includes Mass Noise Liner for the floor and cargo area, with optional deadener for the ribbed cargo floor.

80 Series drone on long trips: the problem, and the fix

The 80 is a touring favourite, but after a full day on the highway the noise from the floor, doors and roof wears you out. Each layer in this pack goes after one of those sources.

How it works in the 80

Deadener stops each panel vibrating. The vinyl and foam Mass Noise Liner sits on top and blocks sound coming through. It is not glued, so after a flooded crossing you can lift it, dry the floor and put it back.

Pack 1 Floor Pan, approx 45kg

  • 80 Series floor deadener: 3 boxes Stage 1, 5.4 square metres
  • Floor liner: 3 pre cut Mass Noise Liner sheets, 4.5 square metres
  • Cargo blanket: 1 Mass Noise Liner sheet, 1.5 square metres

Pack 2 Floor Pan and Doors, approx 55kg

The cargo deadener option

Not included by default, because the ribs in the 80 cargo floor already stiffen it and leaving it out keeps roughly 7kg off the wagon. Choose it if you would rather have an even, fully treated cargo floor. It goes down before the cargo blanket.

How to install in an 80 Series

Effort: moderate. The big job is getting the seats and carpet out of a wagon this size.

  1. Take out the seats, carpet and cargo floor trim, plus door cards or the headlining if your pack covers them.
  2. Wipe every panel down with wax and grease remover or isopropanol.
  3. Deaden the floor pan, firewall, inner quarters and wheel arches, then the doors and roof skin for Packs 2 and 3.
  4. Drop in the three pre cut floor sheets and the cargo blanket, with any optional cargo deadener under it.
  5. Fit Insul-Layer to the roof skin if you have Pack 3, and refit the interior.

Car Builders has not published an install video for the 80 Series pack.

Mistakes to avoid in an 80

  • Gluing the Mass Noise Liner down. It is meant to lift out so you can dry the floor after water gets in.
  • Laying the cargo blanket first if you bought the cargo deadener. The deadener goes down before the blanket.

Common questions on the 80 Series pack

Do I need the roof pack in my 80 Series?

Only if roof heat or drumming bothers you. Pack 3 adds Insul-Layer for that.

What happens to the 80 Series floor liner if water gets in?

Lift the Mass Noise Liner out, let the floor dry, then put it back.

Which 80 Series pack covers the doors?

Packs 2 and 3. Pack 1 leaves the doors untreated.

How heavy is each 80 Series pack?

Car Builders put Pack 1 at about 45kg, Pack 2 at about 55kg and Pack 3 at about 60kg.
