Product features

Quick answer: Headers throw heat into the engine bay and through the firewall into the cabin, and cheap fibreglass wrap itches, needs soaking and frays. Black Titanium wrap goes on dry and holds that heat inside the pipes. Car Builders Premium Black Titanium Header Wrap is a 15m roll of tightly woven fibre made from pulverised lava rock, in 25mm or 50mm width. It keeps heat inside the header pipes, protecting the engine bay and cutting heat into the cabin. Car Builders recommend it for turbo setups. It needs no wetting and comes with 6 stainless ties.

What problems does the Car Builders Premium Black Titanium Exhaust Header Wrap fix?

  • Header heat cooking the engine bay. The wrap holds heat inside the pipes and cuts the heat radiating out onto nearby parts.
  • Heat coming through into the cabin. Less radiant heat off the headers means less getting into the interior.
  • Itchy wet fibreglass wrap. It is not fibreglass and does not need wetting.
  • Wrap that frays and looks scruffy. The tight weave and black finish give a neat result, and Car Builders say it is stronger and more pliable than their other wraps.

How it works

Wrapping the pipes keeps exhaust heat inside them. That protects the parts around the headers, and Car Builders say holding the heat in also keeps exhaust gas velocity up for better flow. Expect some smoke on first start up as the wrap settles and contaminants burn off.

What is in the box

  • 1 roll of Black Titanium Header Wrap, 15m, in the width you select
  • 6 stainless cable ties

How much do I need?

Car Builders width guide: pipes from 19mm to 45mm use 25mm wrap, pipes from 45mm to 100mm use 50mm wrap. For a typical 4 into 1 header from the manifold to the collector, they recommend 1 roll of 25mm for the primaries and 1 roll of 50mm for the secondaries.

Will it fit my vehicle?

Car Builders do not list vehicles for this wrap. It is chosen by pipe diameter, so use the width guide above for headers and exhaust pipes from 19mm to 100mm.

How to install

Difficulty: Moderate. A tight, even wrap takes patience.

  1. Put on gloves, a dust mask and eye protection before you unroll the Black Titanium wrap.
  2. Clean the pipes to remove dust, oil and grease.
  3. Start wrapping with the sewn edge exposed, overlapping the next turn by at least 25%.
  4. Pull every turn as tight as the wrap allows, and clamp it with a hose clamp to hold tension when you stop for a break.
  5. At the end, cut it neatly, fold the end back on itself and secure it with Click Ties.
  6. Expect smoke on first start up while the wrap settles.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Wrapping loosely. Aim for maximum tension.
  • Overlapping less than 25%.
  • Leaving cut ends exposed. Fold them back so they do not fray.
  • Wrapping dirty pipes.

FAQ

Do I need to wet Black Titanium header wrap?

No. It is a fibre but not fibreglass, so it goes on dry.

Why is my header wrap smoking?

Car Builders say it is common on first start up as the wrap settles and contaminants burn off.

Which Black Titanium width suits my pipe size?

Pipes 19mm to 45mm use 25mm. Pipes 45mm to 100mm use 50mm.

How much wrap for a 4 into 1 header?

1 roll of 25mm for the primaries and 1 roll of 50mm for the secondaries to the collector.

Is it suitable for turbo engines?

Yes. Car Builders recommend Black Titanium wrap for turbo setups because of the extreme temperatures.
