The Aerpro SWBM9C is an analogue steering wheel control (SWC) interface engineered for BMW vehicles fitted with Business head units and OEM amplified audio systems, excluding those with Harman Kardon amplification. It retains factory steering wheel controls, the OEM amplified audio system and provides an amplifier remote output after an aftermarket head unit is installed. Phone button functionality is supported with compatible Bluetooth head units. Not suitable for BMW vehicles with factory Harman Kardon amplifiers that feature DSP options in the radio menu and factory subwoofers.
Many BMW models use an OEM amplified audio system where the factory amplifier must remain active after a head unit replacement to preserve audio output through the existing speakers. The SWBM9C retains this OEM amplified system (excluding Harman Kardon), eliminating the need for a separate amplifier retention module in compatible BMW Business head unit vehicles. An amplifier remote output (blue wire) is also provided for connecting the aftermarket head unit's amplifier remote trigger.
The analogue interface uses a vehicle-specific plug that connects directly into the existing BMW wiring without cutting or modifying the factory loom. Phone button functionality is retained when connected to a compatible aftermarket Bluetooth head unit. Voice assistant button support is not available. The Harman Kardon exclusion is critical the SWBM9C is not compatible with BMW vehicles fitted with Harman Kardon amplifiers that have DSP options in the radio menu and factory subwoofers. Use the Aerpro Vehicle Selector to confirm compatibility for your specific BMW model before purchasing.
OEM amplified system retention (excludes Harman Kardon): Retains the factory BMW amplified audio system after head unit replacement, eliminating the need for a separate amplifier retention module in compatible Business head unit vehicles.
Amplifier remote output (blue wire): Provides an amplifier remote trigger output for the aftermarket head unit.
Retains factory steering wheel controls: Allows the factory steering wheel audio controls to function with an aftermarket head unit, keeping hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
Phone button support with compatible Bluetooth head units: Phone button functionality is retained when connected to a compatible aftermarket Bluetooth head unit.
Not compatible with Harman Kardon systems: Not suitable for BMW vehicles with factory Harman Kardon amplifiers featuring DSP options in the radio menu and factory subwoofers. Confirm your vehicle's audio system before purchasing.
Vehicle-specific plug, no wire cutting required: The harness includes a plug designed to connect directly into the existing BMW wiring without cutting or modifying the factory loom.
Analogue interface type: Analogue SWC interface with SW patch lead, suited to compatible aftermarket head units.
Custom button remapping available: Default button configuration can be remapped to suit different aftermarket head unit button assignments. Requires a USB-C cable (sold separately) and Aerpro remapping instructions.
Compatible with Aerpro APP8 ISO harness: Pairing with the Aerpro APP8 Headunit Secondary ISO Harness (sold separately) simplifies the connection between the SWBM9C and the aftermarket head unit.

The SWBM9C suits BMW vehicles fitted with Business head units and OEM amplified audio systems. Not suitable for vehicles with factory Harman Kardon amplifiers that have DSP options in the radio menu and factory subwoofers. The aftermarket head unit must be SWC compatible. Steering wheel control functions may vary from OEM functions. Use the Aerpro Vehicle Selector to confirm compatibility for your specific BMW model and variant before purchasing.
How do I know if my BMW has a Harman Kardon system and is therefore not compatible? BMW vehicles with Harman Kardon amplification typically have DSP (digital signal processing) options visible in the factory radio menu and are fitted with factory subwoofers. If your BMW has either of these, the SWBM9C is not suitable. Use the Aerpro Vehicle Selector or contact us to confirm the correct interface for your vehicle.
What does OEM amplified system retention mean? Many BMW models route audio through a factory amplifier before it reaches the speakers. If this amplifier is not kept active after a head unit replacement, the audio output will be significantly reduced or absent. The SWBM9C retains the factory amplifier signal path for compatible Business head unit BMW models, maintaining normal audio output through the existing speaker system.
What is the blue amplifier remote wire used for? The blue wire provides an amplifier remote trigger output that tells a connected amplifier to power on when the head unit is active. Connect it to the corresponding input on the aftermarket head unit or amplifier as required by your installation.
Does the SWBM9C support voice assistant buttons on the steering wheel? No. Voice assistant button support is not available on the SWBM9C. Phone button functionality is supported with a compatible aftermarket Bluetooth head unit.
What is the Aerpro APP8 and do I need it? The Aerpro APP8 is a headunit secondary ISO harness that connects between the aftermarket head unit and the SWBM9C interface, simplifying the overall installation. It is sold separately and is recommended but not mandatory for the SWBM9C to function.
