Retain Your Ford or Mazda Factory Steering Wheel Controls CANBUS SWC Interface with Reverse Trigger, Park Brake and Speed Pulse Outputs

Product Overview

The Aerpro ASFO7C is a CANBUS steering wheel control interface for Ford and Mazda vehicles, allowing an aftermarket head unit to receive and respond to factory steering wheel control button inputs. Using a vehicle-specific plug that connects directly to the existing factory wiring without cutting or splicing, the ASFO7C reads the SWC data from the vehicle's CANBUS network and translates it into a signal the aftermarket head unit can process.

In addition to SWC retention, the ASFO7C provides three output feeds: reverse trigger (purple wire), park brake (green wire), and speed pulse (pink wire). Illumination output is also included.

The interface uses Patch Lead Type H. For a complete installation, the optional Aerpro APP8 Head Unit Secondary ISO Harness (sold separately) connects between the ASFO7C and the aftermarket head unit, providing clean ISO connectivity throughout.

Features & Benefits

  • CANBUS SWC interface — reads factory steering wheel control data from the vehicle's CANBUS network and translates it to aftermarket head unit-compatible SWC signals, without requiring modification of the factory wiring
  • Vehicle-specific plug — no cutting required — the harness connects directly into the existing factory vehicle wiring using a purpose-made connector; factory wiring integrity is preserved
  • Ford and Mazda compatible — engineered for the Ford and Mazda vehicle CANBUS SWC architecture; confirm the correct part for your specific model using the Aerpro Vehicle Selector
  • Reverse trigger output (purple) — provides a reverse signal output that can be connected to the aftermarket head unit's reverse input to trigger camera display automatically when reversing
  • Park brake output (green) — provides a park brake signal that can be connected to the head unit's park brake input for CarPlay/Android Auto activation and other park brake-dependent functions
  • Speed pulse output (pink) — provides vehicle speed data for compatible head units
  • Illumination output — connects to the head unit's illumination input for automatic display dimming when the vehicle lights are on
  • Patch Lead Type H — the ASFO7C uses a Type H SWC patch lead; ensure your chosen aftermarket head unit is compatible with this patch lead type
  • Pairs with Aerpro APP8 harness (sold separately) — the APP8 Head Unit Secondary ISO Harness provides a clean ISO connection between the ASFO7C and the aftermarket head unit; recommended for a professional installation

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a CANBUS interface and why does it matter for SWC?

Modern Ford and Mazda vehicles transmit steering wheel control button signals digitally over the vehicle's CANBUS network — a shared communication bus that carries data between vehicle systems. An aftermarket head unit cannot read this digital data directly. The ASFO7C acts as a translator: it connects to the CANBUS network, reads the SWC button presses, and outputs them as analogue signals that a standard aftermarket SWC input can recognise. Without this interface, the factory steering wheel buttons will not function with an aftermarket head unit.

What does this interface physically connect to in the vehicle?

The ASFO7C uses a vehicle-specific plug that connects directly into the factory wiring harness at the head unit location — typically where the factory head unit's SWC connector was located. No cutting or splicing of factory wiring is required. The other end of the harness connects to the aftermarket head unit via the Patch Lead Type H output.

What are the reverse trigger, park brake, and speed pulse outputs used for?

The reverse trigger (purple) connects to the aftermarket head unit's reverse input, signalling it to display the reverse camera feed when the vehicle is put in reverse. The park brake output (green) connects to the head unit's park brake input, which is required by some head units to enable CarPlay, Android Auto, or video playback. The speed pulse output (pink) provides vehicle speed data to compatible head units for speedometer display or navigation speed inputs.

What is the Aerpro APP8 and why might I need it?

The APP8 is Aerpro's Head Unit Secondary ISO Harness — a separately sold cable that connects between the ASFO7C interface and the aftermarket head unit's ISO wiring harness. It provides a clean, standardised connection between the two without the need for custom wiring. It's not mandatory if the aftermarket head unit harness already connects appropriately, but it simplifies the installation and results in a cleaner final product.

What does "Patch Lead Type H" mean for my installation?

Patch lead type refers to the physical connector that links the SWC interface to the aftermarket head unit's SWC input. Type H is a specific plug profile used by certain Aerpro-compatible head units. Confirm that your aftermarket head unit's SWC input is compatible with Type H connectivity before purchasing. If not, a different patch lead may be required.
